When We Walked: Irritilatju Tjina Anangi
19 May 2014
This radio documentary was recorded by PAW Media over 10 days of walking, hunting, camping and telling stories through Pintubi/Luritja country in Central Australia.
About 60 people from surrounding communities walk over 70 kilometres, from Haasts Bluff to Mt Leibig.
Along the way they pass by the sacred site of Winparrku, birthplace of the Jardiwarnpa ceremony.
The documentary captures the experiences and feelings of the walkers; many are following the footsteps of their grandparents and ancestors.
They talk about old stories, dreaming stories and bush living. They also discuss some of the physical and mental health issues they are struggling with nowadays.
The oldest person on the walk is Anmatjere man Jack Jangala Cook. He shares his stories and interviews the other walkers.
The documentary is presented by Jack's grandson Dennis Jupurrurla Charles.
