New Portable Video Projection System for Community Screenings

PAW Media is excited to have acquired a portable outdoor video projection system for community cinema screenings. The purchase was partially funded by a grant from the Northern Territory’s  Community Benefit Fund which is administered by the NT Department of Business.

The system comprises a chain-drive video projection screen from Screen Technics, a new high-output Sony projector, an audio mixing desk and a Fender portable PA system with speaker stands. The system will facilitate screenings in Yuendumu and elsewhere. The screen can be carried on the roof-rack of our long wheel-base Toyota “troop carrier” and it will enable PAW Media to reinstate its travelling video Festival program which ran successfully in 2005. That festival visited all the main communities in the PAW broadcast area and beyond, including Lajamanu, Nyirripi, Willowra, Yuelamu, Ali Curung, Laramba, Kintore, Wilora, Mt Liebig and Pmara Jutunta.

“It’s really good to have this video system,” says Francis Jupurrurla Kelly, Chairman of PAW Media. “Now we can look after other communities in our own back-yard”. The area covered by PAW Media’s video activities is as large as Ireland but sparsely-populated. Remote communities lack cinemas and public film-nights are special events. The new setup is also expected to feature at the 2016 National Remote Media Festival. It will enable PAW Media to showcase the work of NT’s indigenous film-makers to the rest of Australia. Around two hundred delegates are expected to attend.
