The coming of the cattle : stories from the Aboriginal stockmen of Central Australia
PAW Media's 2011 radio documentary on the stories of Aboriginal stockmen about life on the cattle stations of Central Australian in the 1920s through to the 1970s. Dennis Jupurrurla Charles interviewed Anmatyerr and Warlpiri men and women about the stations and life as a stockman or as a station worker.
Tony Collins provided training to Dennis Charles and Norbert Morris in interviewing, field recording, vocal techniques for narration, documentary story structure and audio editing.
Thanks to all the people who told their stories and to Harry Jones for the stockman songs.
We've also added one of our popular animations to this page, telling a contact story from the time of the coming of the cattle.
