Wati kura : excerpt only
16 April 2011Wati Kura (recorded live at Yuendumu Sports Weekend)
From the Aboriginal Rules soundtrack.
Sung by Red Sand Band and recorded live at Yuendumu Sports Weekend 2006.
Director's notes:
"Red Sand band are from Amata in South Australia. Led by Stewart Gaykamanu, they play an upbeat 'desert reggae' with strong vocal harmonies. They won the 'Best Reggae' trophy at Yuendumu Sports Weekend in 2006 that took place during the filming of Aboriginal Rules."
CD Producer's notes:
"This song became the travelling soundtrack to all the football trips after Sherman (Team Captain) spent a week driving laps of the community with it blasting out of his car stereo. There's just something about this song. After a while, you find yourself singing along, despite the fact you don't know Pitjantjatjarra! It's from the PAW Radio broadcast of that Saturday night where the Battle of the Bands was played out on the stage next to Big Shop and hundreds of people were dancing in the dust. This song is played several times during the documentary". (Alex Jarvis)
